Oakville has a very rich history dating back to when the First Nations made up of the Mississauga Nations lived in this area. Starting around 1781 the British Crown began purchasing land in this area from the native Mississaugans. In 1805 The Legislative Assembly of Upper Canada purchased the land. Settlers started making homes along Dundas Street and along the shores of Lake Ontario. Industry came to this area with the advent of the Grand Trunk Railway. For Motor Corporation chose Oakville for its headquarters in Canada in 1953.

Most people do own cars and travel by auto. The roads are nice to drive on with wide lanes and have a good flow to them.
